The World Comes to Jio Institute
Students recently interacted with two luminaries of Mumbai’s diplomatic corps – Israeli Consul-General Kobbi Shoshani and Singaporean Consul-General Cheong Ming Foong

It’s not every day that young people get a glimpse into the discreet world of diplomacy – but the students of Jio Institute had two consecutive opportunities recently. The Institute received visits from two senior diplomats, H.E. Kobbi Shoshani, Consul-General of Israel, and H.E. Cheong Ming Foong, Consul-General of Singapore. It’s all part of the global education that Jio Institute offers its students, encouraging them to build wider connections as they grow into global citizens. For their part, the guests learned about Jio Institute’s vision and achievements, interacted with students and faculty and explored potential collaborations.
Hailing Israel’s innovation culture — H.E. Kobbi Shoshani
Consul-General of Israel, Shoshani took part in a lively and engaging seminar with students and faculty. Discussing the Indian and Israeli innovation ecosystems, he urged Indian leaders to embrace Israel's nimble start-up culture, which has produced national champions in everything from cybersecurity to healthcare. He drew parallels between the Indian and Israeli education systems and highlighted their similarities. This call struck a chord with the students who embody Jio Institute's own commitment to innovation, research and academic excellence. For many, it was an eye-opener to see the potential for collaboration and knowledge-sharing between India and Israel. In his remarks, Dr Palak Sheth, Project Director of Jio Institute, underscored the Institute’s commitment to an enduring partnership with Israel.
Pursuing closer ties with Singapore — H.E. Cheong Ming Foong
Jio Institute’s students are no strangers to Singapore, given the Institute’s close ties to institutions like the Nanyang Technological University. Consul-General Cheong’s visit paved the way for new partnerships in education, skill development and technology. Interacting with students, he offered fascinating insights into Singapore's educational advances and described how their innovation-centric model had created a world-class workforce. He said the world could learn from Indian payment systems like UPI, which has recently come to the Asian city-state. In response, Dr Ravichandran, Provost and Professor of Engineering at Jio Institute, who was moderating the event, said India could also learn from Singapore's success in skill development. It was a meeting of minds and a sign of exciting things to come at Jio Institute.
A world of opportunity for students
For students, these visits open up new horizons as they strengthen Jio Institute’s ties with Singapore and Israel. Dr Sheth's comments to both diplomats emphasized the importance of global partnerships that support students and researchers. These interactions also reflect Jio Institute's growing reputation as an eminent global institution and a force to reckon with.
