In an era where artificial intelligence is fundamentally rewriting the economics of global enterprise, the leaders of tomorrow must be more than just academically proficient: they must be the architects of managing this change. 

This ambitious mandate set the stage as the Jio Institute campus buzzed with fresh energy, welcoming its fifth PGP cohort, the Class of 2027. To help the new students settle into the fast-paced environment, the Institute hosted an immersive eight-day orientation programme, starting April 16.

The orientation was curated to achieve comprehensive student familiarisation, offer bridge and refresher courses, provide industry immersion, and deliver a deep-dive into Jio Institute and the broader Reliance ecosystem.

The initial days were dedicated to helping students settle in, focusing on administrative readiness and community building through engaging icebreaker sessions. Early in the programme, key ethical and compliance frameworks were established to reflect the ethos of the broader Reliance family. This included a Prevention of Sexual Harassment (POSH) session led by Ms. Monica Dhar, and a Diversity & Inclusion workshop facilitated by Ms Hemalakshmi Raju. These vital sessions underscored the institution’s unwavering commitment to building an inclusive, respectful, and progressive educational culture.

To encourage early collaboration, the students then tackled an intense 'Idea Sprint'. Operating as startup founders with ₹500 crore in capital, teams designed scalable business models to challenge major industry players. The primary objective of this exercise was to bring together students from mixed cohorts, breaking the ice and building cross-functional collaboration skills. This intellectual heavy-lifting was complemented with a focus on holistic health, featuring outdoor fitness, Toastmasters training, and mental well-being sessions.

To truly understand the scale and innovation of the Reliance ecosystem, students needed to experience it firsthand. On the fifth day, the cohort embarked on an immersive corporate tour, starting at the Reliance Corporate Park (RCP). Here, they witnessed applied learning in action by exploring the cutting-edge 5G Experience Centre and the interactive Retail Experience Zone. The journey then continued to the Jio World Centre (JWC) and the Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre (NMACC). This gave the incoming class essential exposure to an unmatched professional and cultural ecosystem, seamlessly connecting their academic journey to real-world excellence.

The orientation programme culminated on 23 April with an Inaugural Session. The cohort received profound technological insights from the Chief Guest, Dr Rohini Srivathsa, Independent Director, Acko. She offered a demystifying perspective on artificial intelligence, emphasising that “while AI leverages data to predict patterns, true impact comes from the collaboration between artificial and human intelligence, with human judgment remaining completely irreplaceable”.

Following this, Mr Hitesh Patel, Head of Marketing – Sports, RIL, delivered an engaging keynote address. Drawing from his expertise at the intersection of sport, culture, and technology, he illuminated how his teams shape unforgettable fan experiences across cricket, football, and Olympic sports. His insights into leveraging storytelling, strategic partnerships, and AI to build strong brands deeply resonated with the students. The ceremony was further enriched by the presence of Mr Suresh Subramanian, CEO, AI Vista Analytics, who graced the occasion as the Guest of Honour.

Institutional leadership then outlined the vision for the year. Dr Palak Sheth, Project Director, and Dr Shailesh Kumar, Dean, addressed the gathering, setting the tone for academic excellence. Finally, Dr Dipak Jain, Vice-Chancellor, delivered a moving vision for the future. Reminding the students of their unique cultural strengths and values, his closing words served as a powerful rallying cry: “No challenge ahead of you is greater than the force behind you, and that we are all here for you”.

As the PGP Class of 2027 starts their academic sessions at Jio Institute, their orientation serves as a kickstarter to the rigorous and engaging year ahead. Rooted in strong ethical values and propelled by the visionary momentum of the Reliance group, these future leaders are primed to redefine the boundaries of global business and technological innovation.
